Welcome Mr. John

Team Jordan is excited to add a new coach to our team.  Mr. John will be joining us for the next five weeks.  John is a senior at Masconomet and is also Ms. K's son.  He will be working in our classroom to see if becoming a teacher is the right path for him.  John is a highly motivated student and a great role model for this class.  He is going to James Madison in the fall.   Currently, John is on the Masconomet Varsity Baseball Team.  We look forward to having John in our class.

April Update & Thank you

Dear Families,

I hope that you all enjoyed open house.  It was great to see so many families.  I look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Save the date:  May 30th at 9:15.  We will be having a Poetry Celebration.  At this time the children will perform for you and share some of their wonderful work.  We hope you can make it! More information will be coming home as the date gets closer.

The past few weeks have been very busy here at Steward School.  Team Jordan would like to thank the DASH volunteers for their hard work and dedication.  The parents did a great job teaching us about the different ways that the people in the deaf community live.  We enjoyed meeting K.R. and learning about her experiences as a deaf person.  She reminded us that different is not less.  She spoke to the kids about the many things that she can do.  She and her husband are story tellers and they enjoy teaching children through their stories.

We also want to thank TESTPO and the book fair volunteers. The children enjoyed choosing books for themselves and for our class.  Thanks so much to all of you who donate great literature to our class library.  I know that my current and future students will delight in reading them.

Thank you to Dr. Creeden and the Rotary Club for giving the third graders dictionaries.  These will come in handy while they read and write at home.  Encourage your child to learn a new word everyday!

Today was one of those days that a teacher dreams about.  I was truly proud of each and everyone of my students while they shared their research.  Over the past few weeks students have been researching a topic of their choice.  They asked questions, found answers, wrote, revised, edited, published, and shared.  During this time the excitement in our classroom and the computer lab was contagious.  Today it all came together as I watched twenty children take notes while one by one their classmates taught them.  I hope you can get a sense of the power of self directed learning from the pictures below.

Reid taught us about the Panda.

Will taught us about the Jaguar.

As you can tell we have a lot of different interests.  Some of the kids want to help animals and enjoyed teaching us about them.  Others are more excited about athletes and their amazing records.  Some like to learn about historic events. Regardless of what your child studied, he or she learned that research is a lot of work and a lot of fun.

I hope that each of my players continues to ask questions and find answers!

Have a wonderful spring vacation.
